How to make a QR code sign for your counter
Download your page's QR code, print it about 3 to 8 cm wide on a counter stand, and customers scan it to see your menu, hours and contact details.
Publish your page, open Page settings and publishing, choose Printable QR code, then Download QR code (PNG). Print the code about 3 to 8 cm wide, put it in a stand on the counter, and customers can scan it from where they order.
1. Decide what the code should open
The sign stays the same once printed, so put on the page what people standing at your counter want to know.
- Your hours: an Opening Hours card tells them whether you are open right now.
- Your menu or service list: an Image & Portrait card, one photo per card so the text stays readable.
- A way to reach you: a Direct Contact card with your phone number and messaging apps.
When anything changes later, edit the page. The printed sign keeps working.
2. Settle your page address before you print
The code holds your page address: pressagen.com/@ followed by the name you chose.
- Pick a name you will keep under Page address before you print. If you change it later, codes already printed keep working for 30 days only.
- Keep the page published. A page switched back to a draft shows Page not found to anyone who scans the code.
3. Download and print
- In Page settings and publishing, choose Publish.
- In the same panel, choose Printable QR code. The QR code button in the toolbar opens the same code.
- Choose Download QR code (PNG). You get a 1024 by 1024 pixel image.
- Send the image to your print shop, or drop it into your own sign design.
Three things make the difference between a code that scans at once and one that does not:
- Size: about 3 to 8 cm wide suits a counter, where people scan from arm’s length. A code on a door or window that people scan from further away needs to be bigger.
- Contrast: keep the dark code on white. A light code, or one printed on a dark background, is hard for phone cameras to read.
- Margin: the white border around the code is part of what a phone needs to find it, so do not crop it.
4. Add one line of text to the sign
A bare code does not tell people what they get for scanning it. Write one line beside it, such as “Scan for today’s menu and hours” or “Scan to message us and book”.
5. Test it where it will stand
- Scan the printed sign with your phone camera and check that your page opens.
- Scan it again with a phone from a different maker.
- Put the sign where it will actually stand, and scan it from where a customer orders. Move it if the light causes glare.
Questions
Can I change what the sign shows after printing it?
Yes. The code points only to your page address, so edit the page as often as you like. Keep the page address and keep the page published.
Can I put my logo in the middle of the code?
The downloaded image has no logo. Covering the middle of the code with a picture can stop it from scanning, so place your logo beside the code instead.
Start from a template
To see a coffee shop page with hours, contact buttons and a map together, open the Alisan Forest Coffee template, change it to your shop, and then download the code to print.
