How to show opening hours and holiday closures on your page
Split shifts, a regular day off, public holidays, a week of vacation and a sudden closure: which setting of the Opening Hours card handles each one.
Put the hours you keep every week under Weekly hours, the exceptions under Special dates, and reminders such as last orders under Store Notice. Set up this way, the card shows whether you are open right now, so nobody makes a trip to a locked door.
To start, choose Add card in the editor, open the Features tab and choose Opening Hours. Then set it up for each situation below.
You close in the afternoon
- Under Weekly hours, find the day and choose Add hours. Set 11:00 to 14:00.
- Choose Add hours again and set 17:00 to 21:00.
- Choose Copy to other days on that day, tick the days with the same hours, and choose Apply.
During the break the card shows that you are closed and when you open again.
You close on the same day every week
Remove every range on that day with Remove hours. A day without hours shows as closed, so there is nothing to write.
Your days off change from month to month
A rota, or a day off on the first Monday of each month, does not fit a weekly pattern. Add each date instead.
- Under Special dates, choose Add a special date and change it to your day off.
- Choose Closed.
- When you plan the next month, add all its days off at once. The card holds up to 60 special dates.
A date stops applying once it has passed and moves to Past dates, so you never have to undo it. Clear past dates tidies them away.
Public holidays, Christmas and vacations
- Closed all day: choose Closed and add a note, such as Christmas Day or Summer break. The card shows the note on that day.
- Open with different hours: choose Special hours and set that day’s ranges, for example closing at 15:00 on New Year’s Eve.
- Away for a week or two: add one special date per day you are closed, as soon as you book the time off.
Add holiday dates as soon as you know them, so people checking ahead see the right hours.
You need to close today
Under Special dates, choose Closed today. The card switches to closed, and tomorrow your weekly hours apply again. Choose Publish changes in Page settings and publishing so visitors see it.
You stay open past midnight
Set one range such as 18:00 to 02:00 rather than splitting it across two days. At 1 a.m. the card still shows open, because those hours belong to the day you opened.
Last orders and other reminders
Write reminders such as last orders or booking ahead at weekends under Store Notice, not in your hours. Keep the ranges to opening and closing times so the open or closed light stays right.
Choose how the card looks
- Same hours every day: choose Compact: today and the status light. Today is all people need.
- Hours that vary, or a regular day off: choose Full: the weekly table, so people see the whole week at once.
Questions
Will visitors in another time zone see the wrong status?
No. Open or closed is judged in your page’s time zone. If it is wrong, change it under Page time zone in Page settings and publishing.
What happens if I add the same date twice?
Only the first one applies, and the card’s settings warn you. Delete the extra one with Remove special date.
