How to add a Google Maps directions link to your page

Add a Map & Directions card with your address, and visitors who tap Open in Google Maps get a route to your door.

Add a Map & Directions card and fill in Physical Address. Your page then shows an Open in Google Maps button that opens Google Maps with a route to you. If your business already has a listing on Google Maps, also put its name in Search Query (Optional), so directions end at your listing instead of a point on the street.

1. Add the card

  1. In the editor, choose Add card, open the Features tab and choose Map & Directions.
  2. Under Card title, write what visitors look for, such as Find us.
  3. Under Store Name, enter the name on your sign, so people can match the card to your front door.

2. Fill in the address and the search query

  • Physical Address: the full postal address, with street number, district and city. It shows on the card and is where directions lead.
  • Search Query (Optional): when filled in, directions search for this instead of the address.

Fill in the search query in two cases:

  • Your business is listed on Google Maps: use the name exactly as Google Maps shows it, plus the neighbourhood or city, such as Corner Coffee Shoreditch. Visitors arrive at your listing and can see its photos and reviews on the way.
  • You are inside a mall, market or office building: use the building’s name. Arriving at the main entrance is easier than arriving at a street number.

If your business has no Google Maps listing yet, leave the query empty and directions use your address.

3. Say how to get there

Under Transit & Directions, write the one way most people arrive, such as 2 minutes from the station, exit 3, or Parking behind the building. It shows under the address, so people can plan before they leave.

4. Publish and test on a phone

  1. In Page settings and publishing, choose Publish, or Publish changes if the page is already live.
  2. Open your page on a phone and tap Open in Google Maps.
  3. Check that the route ends at your door. If it does not, adjust the search query and publish again.

Where to put it

  • For a shop most people visit for the first time, place the card under your Opening Hours card. People check that you are open, then get directions.
  • Short on space? Set the card to 1x1 Square. The whole small card becomes the directions button.

Questions

Why does the button take people to the wrong place?

The search query is usually too short, so Google Maps matches another business with the same name. Add your neighbourhood or city to the query, or clear it to route by address.

What if a visitor does not have the Google Maps app?

The button opens Google Maps in the browser, which shows the same route. On phones with the app installed, it usually opens the app.

Start from a template

To see a shop page with a map, opening hours and contact buttons together, open the Atelier Minimalist template, change the address to yours and test the button.
