Custom domain
Open your Pro page on a domain you own: enter the domain, add one CNAME record, and wait for the certificate.
On an account’s Pro page, the Custom domain section has a binding wizard: enter the domain, add one CNAME record, and a timeline shows DNS detection, the certificate and activation. Other pages explain that the Pro plan or the Pro page is needed.
When you finish, visitors who type your domain (for example shop.yourbrand.com) see this page. Custom domains are a Pro plan feature: a domain can only be bound to the account’s Pro page, and an account can have one custom domain at a time.
Before you start
- Your account is on the Pro plan (see The Pro plan), and you have chosen Set as Pro page for this page in the dashboard.
- You can change the DNS records of the domain.
Bind a domain
- In the editor, open Page settings and publishing and find the Custom domain section.
- Enter the domain and choose Continue to DNS setup.
- Where you manage the domain’s DNS, add a CNAME record: the name is your domain and the target is
cname.pressagen.com. Some providers want only the part before your domain in the name field, for example shop. - Back in the editor, choose I added the record.
- Wait while the timeline goes through DNS detected, Certificate issued and Active.
The wizard checks again every 30 seconds. After 20 minutes it stops checking on its own; choose Check again when you need to.
Root domains
A subdomain such as shop or www works best. A root domain (for example yourbrand.com) needs a DNS provider that supports ALIAS or ANAME records.
Email on your domain
A custom domain sends only web traffic to PressaGen. Email runs on your domain’s MX records in DNS, and PressaGen neither needs nor changes your MX, SPF or DKIM records.
With a subdomain such as www or shop, your email records stay on the root domain and do not conflict with the CNAME. This is another reason to use a subdomain.
If you bind the root domain, your DNS provider must support ALIAS or ANAME records (see Root domains above). A plain CNAME cannot sit beside MX records on the same name, and email for the domain would stop.
To send and receive email on your domain, create an account with an email service, such as Google Workspace, Zoho Mail, or the mailbox and forwarding your DNS provider offers, and add the MX and verification records it gives you. If your domain’s DNS is on Cloudflare, its Email Routing can forward messages to a mailbox you already use.
PressaGen does not provide mailboxes and cannot set up email for you. For email questions, contact your email service.
Open other pages under your domain
Once your domain is active, your account’s other published pages can open under it too.
- In the editor, open the other page’s Page settings and publishing.
- Find Address under your own domain and type one short word, such as menu.
- Choose Save.
The page then opens at https://your-domain/menu, and links between your pages on your domain use those short addresses. Use lowercase letters, numbers and single hyphens, up to 40 characters. The page also keeps opening at its pressagen.com address.
What the states mean
- Still at DNS detected: no CNAME pointing at
cname.pressagen.comyet. DNS changes usually take a few minutes and can take up to an hour. - Still at Certificate issued: DNS is working and the certificate is being issued, usually within 5 minutes.
- Active: once the page is published, visitors can open it at your domain.
- Something is wrong: check the DNS record and choose Check again, or remove the domain and bind it again.
- Suspended: the domain is suspended when the Pro plan ends. Renew Pro, set this page as the Pro page again, then choose Bind again.
While the domain is not active or is suspended, the page is still a draft, or this page is no longer the Pro page, visitors who open the domain only see This domain’s page is not enabled right now.
Remove a domain
- In the Custom domain section, choose Remove domain.
- In the confirmation, choose Remove.
- Where you manage the domain’s DNS, delete the CNAME record that points at
cname.pressagen.com.
After you remove a custom domain, also delete the CNAME record at your DNS provider, or someone else could bind the domain.
Removing a domain does not need the Pro plan, so you can remove it after the plan ends too. To move a custom domain to another page, remove it from its current page first.
