Essay and newsletter template: long-form writing on one page

A one-page template for essayists and independent publications: a long essay in parts, a pull quote, an author bio and a newsletter sign-up.

The demo page of this template

Who it is for

For writers who publish long pieces, such as essays, criticism or research notes, and for a small publication that comes out every week. The demo is a made-up column: an essay in two parts with a pull quote between them, then the author’s photo, a short bio, this issue’s contents and a few numbers.

Replace the headline first, then paste your own essay into the two text cards and pick the one line you want remembered for the pull quote. Say in the newsletter description how often you write and what readers get, which is what makes people leave their address. Delete the music card if you do not need it.

If you plan to build an archive that readers browse by topic, one page will not hold it. If you sell a single printed issue, the Guelta template is simpler.

Replace these five first

  1. Hero Masthead: Headline
  2. Rich Text: Article Body (Prose)
  3. Blockquote: The quotation
  4. Newsletter: Description
  5. Audio Stream: Audio URL

Common questions

Do subscribers get emails automatically?

No. The newsletter card collects addresses. Open Subscribers in the card's settings, choose Export CSV, and send your issues with the email tool you already use.

Do I need the music card?

No. It only sets a mood for reading, and deleting it leaves the rest of the page as it is.
