Surf lessons in Cape Town, timed to the tide
I'm Anele Gqirana, and I have coached on these beaches for twelve years. Each morning I read the wind and the tide and choose the beach where your first waves will be gentle. Groups are six at most, and boards and wetsuits are included.
06:30
Muizenberg, an hour before low tide. I confirm it on WhatsApp the evening before.

When I'm in the water

Send the lesson, how many of you and your level; I reply with the next tide slot.
Before you book
I have never surfed. Can I join a group?
Yes, most people in a group lesson are beginners. We practise on the sand first, then ride white water no deeper than your waist.
What should I bring?
A swimsuit, a towel and sunscreen. I bring the board, the wetsuit and the wax.
What if the waves are too big or too flat?
I tell you the evening before and we move the lesson to another morning, or I refund it. You never pay for a lesson the sea cancels.
How cold is the water?
The Atlantic side, at Big Bay and Long Beach, is often 12 to 15 °C; False Bay at Muizenberg is a few degrees warmer. I give you a wetsuit for the day's water, with booties when it is coldest.
