Radio, in front of you

Radio drama has been part of Philippine radio for decades. We write a new story every week and record it in Quezon City, where the big networks have their studios. Once a month, you can watch.

A few loose blank white sheets fanned out on a dark wooden table, held by a black binder clip, a folded deep red cloth behind them in warm side light
A knee-high wooden door in its own frame on a stage floor, a tray of gravel beside it and a sheet of tin hanging from a stand under a single bulb: props for making sound effects live
Rows of empty red velvet theatre seats with wooden armrests in warm amber light, the back rows fading into the dark
Recording night

How a recording night goes

Doors open at 19:00 and recording starts at 19:30. Phones go off, and you watch the cast read and the sound effects made by hand. We finish by 21:00.

Celestina Ocampo-Reyes

Writer and director

I write a new story every week for four actors and a table of sound effects. Sampung Tinig Productions records one on stage each month, so listeners can see how it's made.

Good to know

Do the seats cost anything?

No. Seats are free, and there are sixty a night. The form asks for your name, how many seats and which recording.

Can I come in late?

No. The doors close when recording starts at 19:30, so please come by 19:15.

Does a typhoon stop the recording?

June to November is the rainy season. If a typhoon signal is up for Metro Manila, we move the recording and post the new date on our Facebook page.
